A Modern Station
Train Driver

Train Drivers make sure that all types of trains get to the end of their journey safely and on time. Drivers can control different types of trains (diesel, electric and diesel-electric) at speeds of up to 125mph.

They can be responsible for trains carrying over 400 passengers or hauling over 2,000 tonnes of freight. That's the same responsibility as the pilot of a jumbo-jet or 35 drivers of the heaviest trucks on the roads.

All train drivers need to know about their trains, the routes on which they are working, the signalling systems, rail safety rules and what to do in an emergency.
